He finally passed away from ‘an overdose of muscle relaxants’ At the cut was his final recording, made during the days he kept putting off surgery because he was massively in debt and because the American healthcare system was (and still mostly is) a nightmare. ![]() Vic Chesnutt was partially paralysed from a car accident when he was 18 and had major medical issues. We asked Rajith Savanadasa what music he is listening to right now. Ruins is about about a family torn apart in the aftermath of the Sri Lankan civil war. Savanadasa is the founder and primary contributor to Open City Stories, a website documenting the lives of a group of asylum seekers in Melbourne. He was shortlisted for the Asia-Europe Foundation short story prize in 2013, the Fish Publishing short story prize in 2013, received a Wheeler Centre Hotdesk Fellowship in 2014 and was part of the QWC/Hachette Manuscript Development Program in 2014. He had been studying engineering at RMIT University then switched to creative writing and completed its Professional Writing and Editing course. He has just published his first novel Ruins. Rajith Savanadasa was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Melbourne in 2001. ![]()
